Hydration, the secret to beautiful skin
We cannot stress it enough: hydration is ess-en-tial if you want to have beautiful skin! Water is so important for the epidermis and to keep your skin glowing and smooth with good elasticity. When you moisturise, you are helping the skin’s cells to regenerate as well as restoring its hydrolipidic balance. As the skin’s protective barrier starts to weaken, it loses even more water and starts to become dehydrated: it feels tight, itchy, is rougher and looks a lot more drab. Often what we think are small wrinkles are actually dehydration lines, which can creep in whatever your age: even in younger skin, a lack of water can affect the particularly delicate skin around the eye, causing it to crease. So, if you really want to slow down the onset of wrinkles, you need to start paying serious attention to moisturising your skin from as early as your 20s.
Hyaluronic acid, an intense moisturiser
Hyaluronic acid is a natural agent found in the epidermis layer of the skin. It plays a vital role in preserving the skin’s tone and elasticity, but also maintaining this famous hydration: it’s the main reason why younger skin is naturally plump, full and smooth. As time ticks on, starting in your twenties, its presence in the body gradually decreases, notably because of the free radicals (sunlight, pollution …) that we’re exposed to. Beauty products are definitely on the right track by introducing hyaluronic acid as one of their properties, since, thanks to its unique structure, it can hold on to water molecules, helping to hydrate the skin. It works a bit like a sponge, soaking up to 1000 times its weight in water! As it’s neither fatty nor occlusive, it is also a great alternative for problematic younger skin that needs hydration but without the side-effect of spots.
Hyaluronic acid is, therefore, great for facial moisturising and is perfect for any dehydrated or lacklustre skin that wants to get ready to take on winter.
